DESCRIPTION:September 22\, 2026 | 9:30am – 4:00pm\nHousatonic Community College\, Bridgeport\, Connecticut\nFree to attend | Registration required \nHow can data help us develop more effective campaigns to reduce lawn fertilizer use? What are the best practices and tools of an effective outreach campaign? \nJoin practitioners from across the Long Island Sound region for a free\, one-day interactive workshop focused on using data and behavior change strategies to strengthen fertilizer reduction outreach. \nThe workshop will take participants from understanding the data to putting it into action. \nDuring the first part of the day\, the developers of the Long Island Sound Lawn Fertilizer Outreach Targeting Tool will introduce the tool\, explain how it was developed\, and demonstrate how practitioners can use it to better understand audiences and fertilizer behaviors in communities around Long Island Sound. \nThen\, a behavior change expert will help participants take the next step: using insights from the tool to begin developing an effective community campaign. Through guided exercises and discussion\, participants will explore how audience data and behavior change principles can help determine who to reach\, what behaviors to focus on\, and strategies for encouraging change. \nWhat you’ll learn \nParticipants will: \n\nLearn how the Lawn Fertilizer Outreach Targeting Tool was developed and what its data can tell us\nGet hands-on experience exploring the tool and identifying relevant audience insights for your own community\nLearn key principles for developing effective behavior change campaigns\nExplore how data informs campaign audiences\, messages\, and strategies\nTake practical steps towards developing a fertilizer reduction campaign for your own community – or improve an existing campaign\nConnect with other practitioners working on nitrogen reduction and community outreach around Long Island Sound\n\nWho should attend? \nThis workshop is designed for practitioners who develop\, implement\, or support community outreach and behavior change efforts\, including staff from municipalities\, nonprofits\, government agencies\, watershed and conservation organizations\, and other groups working around Long Island Sound. \nYou do not need previous experience with the targeting tool or behavior change campaigns to participate. \nThere is no cost to attend\, but advance registration is required. \nREGISTER \nThis workshop is hosted by the Long Island Sound Partnership\, Connecticut Sea Grant\, New York Sea Grant\, and UConn CLEAR with partners from Clark University\, University of Miami\, and OpinionWorks. \nFor more information\, please contact Erica Casper\, CT Sea Grant\, at erica.casper@uconn.edu or Jimena Perez-Viscasillas\, NY Sea Grant\, at jbp255@cornell.edu
