Every American eel that lives in Long Island Sound began its life thousands of miles away in the Sargasso Sea in the Atlantic Ocean. Their life story is one of remarkable transformation, much of it still shrouded in mystery. What we see as the humble – and some might even say slimy or gross – eel is actually a biological marvel, an indicator of ecosystem health, and an animal that spends its life going both with, and against, the flow.
