Long Island Sound Resilience Grant Writing Assistance Program

AS OF OCTOBER 1, 2025, A FOURTH ROUND OF THE LONG ISLAND SOUND GRANT WRITING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE.

Review the RFP here. This Program is open on a rolling basis until all of the available funding has been allocated.

What is the Long Island Sound Resilience Grant Writing Assistance Program?

The LIS Partnership Sustainable and Resilient Communities Extension Professionals established the Long Island Sound Resilience Grant Writing Assistance (GWA) Program in 2022 to assist communities within the Long Island Sound (LIS) Coastal Boundary across New York and Connecticut to hire grant writing consultants to develop successful proposals for sustainability and resilience-focused projects. The GWA Program aims to increase capacity within municipalities and community organizations to successfully navigate the resilience funding landscape. Eligible projects should help foster a sustainable and resilient Long Island Sound and empower LIS communities to plan for and respond to environmental challenges in ways that prioritize well-being for all.

How does the Grant Writing Assistance Program Work?

The GWA Program provides match-free funding for applicants to receive contractor support for grant preparation and writing tasks, including (but not limited to) budget preparation, writing and narrative development, mapping, cost-benefit analysis, and proposal submission. The Program is open on a rolling basis and applications are accepted until all available funding is allocated.

“I thought this program was terrific. It enabled me to hire somebody who had the knowledge that would help us to apply for a grant. As a small municipality, we don’t have the staff or the knowledge in-house to apply for such grants so the ability to pay somebody really helped us get the information needed.”

-GWA Program Participant

Funding is available up to $9,950 per application directly to a contractor on a cost reimbursable basis. Please note that applicants can submit multiple applications, but are limited to receiving $9,950 in support per year (October 1-September 30).

It is strongly recommended that applicants apply as soon as you decide to pursue a grant opportunity or as soon as the grant opportunity opens – applications must be received 6 weeks in advance of the opportunity due date, to allow for administrative processing in addition to time to prepare your grant proposal.
