From 2009-2022 Judy Preston served as the Connecticut Outreach Coordinator for the Long Island Sound Study (now the Long Island Sound Partnership), while working at Connecticut Sea Grant. Among her many outreach responsibilities, Preston did foundational work at communities across Connecticut to educate gardeners on the connections between how they garden and the impact to the environment, including the effects of applying herbicides and pesticides on local waterways and Long Island Sound. She also was an advocate for creating native plant gardens that required no chemical applciations. Earlier this month, Preston received a prestigious award from the Rockfall Foundation, which promotes and supports conservation and environmental education in the Lower Connecticut River Valley. You can read about the award in an article on the Connecticut Sea Grant website.

Judy is also a great photographer, with a particularly good eye for taking photos in the Connecticut River valley where she lives. Here’s a few of her photos.
